Today
I set up a new record for leaving late: 11:20 AM. But this was for a
good reason. I had a relaxed morning, packed my bags, said good bye to Bill
and waited for the museum to open at 10 AM. Ms Brainard is the director
and curator of the museum. She is a 90 year old lady and very energetic.
Leaving
this late was not bad as the trip to Dayville goes mainly downhill and is
only 44 miles. I had a big breakfast / lunch in John Day at the
Birdhouse restaurant, they have great scramblers. What I did not expect
was the very strong wind blowing into my face from Mount Vernon on.
It almost blew me and my bicycle back uphill to where I came from.
I
reached Dayville at 4:15 PM and looked for the Presbyterian Church. The
community room of this church is used as a free (donations welcome)
hostel for bicyclists and has a nice shower.
