* Day 17, Blue River - Eugene (8/17/00)
Map: Day 17
Day 17
Day: 76.9 km |Trip: 1258 km

This was already the last day of this tour. Unfortunately I did not keep any records of this last day in my logbook so I have to write this from memory.

Again it was a very cold night and the air was very humid. The sun would not come around until noon time as it was hiding behind hills. My tent was very wet from the humidity and I had to pack it while it was still wet. I left Blue River without breakfast and biked rather fast to warm up.

After 14 miles I reached the town of Vida where I stopped for breakfast and some great hot coffee. The traffic on Rt 126 became heavy toward the middle of the day. From Vida on there was not always a shoulder and the trucks were passing quite close to me. I was happy when I reached Waterville where I could get off Rt 126 and continue on the smaller Camp Creek Road which has only little traffic. Even though this road and later the McKenzie View Drive closely follow the McKenzie River downstream the road was quite hilly, a lot of ups and downs.

The Adventure cycling route into Eugene nicely avoids roads with heavy traffic and comes very close to the street that I had to get on to get to the motel I booked a room in the night before. In Eugene I stayed in a Motel 6 again.
